Things To Do In Jamsil: Lotte World & Korean BBQ

Renewme Skin Clinic Jamsil branch is located conveniently in one of the hottest neighborhoods in Seoul; you've got the Olympic Stadium and baseball stadium for sports events and major concerts, Seokchon Lake for romantic walks and nature, Lotte World, Lotte Hotel, Lotte World Mall, Lotte Department Store for fun and shopping... Jamsil-dong is also close to the Han River, and just a few steps from Coex Mall (Samsung Station) and Gangnam Station. Who wouldn't want to give the area a visit?

This past weekend, Nicole (our Chinese interpreter) and I went on a spontaneous trip to Lotte World, one of the most popular amusement parks in Seoul. It's accessible by subway, a 10 minute subway ride from Gangnam, which makes it a popular option compared to other parks that require a good deal of driving to reach. Besides the awesome rides, it includes an ice skating rink, folk museum, an extravagant parade in the evening, snack stalls, souvenir shops, and plenty of delicious restaurants. Lotte World has also been featured in a lot of Korean dramas and TV shows, making it a big tourist attraction as well. A day pass (with unlimited rides) for adults is 48,000 won, but there is always some sort of event going on, or specific credit cards that can get you a good discount, so make sure to do your research before going.

I didn't get to take a lot of photos, unfortunately, since I was too busy enjoying the moment (sorry, not sorry). :P However, the best parts of Lotte World are the rides anyway, and those can't be captured in photos. It's best to visit yourself at least once while you are in Korea. The whole place really is quite picturesque as well as exciting. Here are just a few pictures I did manage to snap for you guys.

Gyro Swing
Gyro Drop
Passageway to Magic Island, the outdoor section of Lotte World
Snacks are also inevitable when you're at an amusement park. You can get hot dogs, burgers, churros, corn dogs, ddeokbokki, slushies, funnel cakes, waffles, ice cream, pizza, kebabs, noodles, candy... if you're waiting hours in line for a ride, might as well eat to make the time go by faster, haha! Popular souvenirs also include cat/bunny ears; you'll see a lot of girls rocking these headbands (not myself or Nicole sadly, since we're a bit too practical for that), so although everything is a big overpriced, I suggest you get some yourself for the Korean experience.

For your reference, here are the top 5 rides you should make sure to check out while you're there, in case you're limited on time or can't decide which ones are absolutely worth waiting for.

1. Atlantis
This is by far the best ride and most popular of all. It's a super fast roller coaster that doesn't give you any time to collect your thoughts, and you'll find screams escaping your mouth before you even register what's going on. Total awesomeness. I waited 40 minutes this time, but I remember years ago I once waited 4 hours to ride this thing (for less than 5 minutes), and it was still definitely worth it. Wouldn't wait that long again, though. You'll be lucky if you can visit on any month other than July, August, January, and February. I would say the safest months are March-May, and September-November.

2. Gyro Swing
As shown in the photo, this is a giant circular structure that swings back and forth on a giant pendulum while rotating. I always get a nauseating rush when I'm facing the ground on my way down - it's a terrifying yet fantastic feeling.

3. Gyro Drop
This ride will take you slowly up a huge central tower about 25 stories high. You'll see more and more of the surrounding lakes, the park, and the neighborhood. Once you reach the top, you wait a few seconds in suspense, and then all of a sudden you drop back down at more than 90 kph. It's way too short but the exhilaration you feel can last for quite a while.

4. The Conquistador
A Viking, or pirate ship ride, where you ride a "ship" that swings back and forth. The best seats are obviously on each end. This one is located in the indoor section of Lotte World, but is still very popular.

5. French Revolution
This is a roller coaster that runs all over the indoor park, except you're not aware of it since you're so busy screaming your head off. French Revolution even has a 360-degree rotation, which not even the Atlantis has.

Honorable mentions also include the Giant Loop, Flume Ride, and Comet Express. Everything else is frankly not very exciting. :D

And now for dinner. Nicole was in the mood for Korean BBQ, which unfortunately was not inside Lotte World. I had to do a quick search of restaurants nearby and found a place called Eongtori Saenggogi (quick translation: messed up meat), which was still very close by. Just walk a few meters from Jamsil station exit 7, and you'll find the underground entrance right in front of McDonald's.

Entrance
Walk straight in and you'll find a line of restaurants, several of which have BBQ dishes.

Here is their menu if you can read Korean! This place serves both beef and pork, but I prefer pork not only because it's cheaper but because it's just more yummier for me. They've also got a menu called duaejihanmari (one full pig) or sohanmari (one full cow) which means they serve all the different parts of meat - this is for larger groups of people. For Nicole and I, however, I just ordered two portions of samgyeopsal, my favorite part (pork belly).

Take a look at the side dishes and the sizzling meat!

If you know anything about Korean BBQ, you'll know that you're supposed to wrap the meat with these lettuce pieces, add a few condiments or side dishes, and eat it all in one bite!

Before anything was cooking. Bean paste soup is placed on the center and heated by the grill along with the meat. Foil provided for cooking kimchi and garlic on the side!

For dessert (not really dessert, but more as a finishing course I suppose) Nicole and I shared a bowl of mulnaengmyeon (cold noodles, non spicy with broth). This is the perfect dish to accompany grilled meat. I feel it just completes the whole meal.

It might not look visually appealing like some other noodles, but it tasted good!!!
If you see these bottles, use them with your noodles or you're really missing out! These are vinegar and mustard bottles. Add a dash to your noodles for the extra tangy kick! Otherwise the noodles will taste a bit bland. You'll thank me later.
Theme park and a delicious dinner - great way to spend a weekend, isn't it? If you're looking for ways to have fun in Korea, hopefully this blog post offers an idea.

Man, I just love Seoul. :)

Basic Acne Treatment Steps at Renewme Skin Clinic

Hi y'all. It's been raining since yesterday here in Seoul, and it's cold and dreary, but I ain't complaining because today is Friday. Just hang in there for a little more, everyone, and soon we'll wake up to a glorious weekend, regardless of how awful the weather might be! If you're not reading this on a Friday... well then, either way, the weekend is bound to come around anyway. ;)

A few days ago I visited our Bundang branch to film some videos for our clinic, just footage of our popular procedures so we could show YOU guys a peek into what to expect during treatment. In this post I will introduce to you the steps taken for acne scaling, the most basic form of acne treatment done at our clinic.

Skin scaling is a type of superficial chemical peel that exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. I wrote a blog post about this earlier, which you can read by clicking here. This treatment is recommended weekly, more or less depending on your current skin condition, until you see improvement. Keep reading to check out what this treatment includes!

STEP 1: CLEANSING
Just as the name suggests, treatment starts off with a cleansing session. You can remove your makeup and wash your face at our powder room, but for this treatment our aesthetician removes it for you - foundation and all. Way to feel pampered from the beginning, right?

STEP 2: STEAMER
Not sure if you can see in the photo, but the machine on the left is actually emitting steam right now. Warm steam is directed toward your face, making it a little stuffy for breathing but nothing you couldn't handle - very much like a sauna, actually. This step opens up your pores and softens the dead cells in preparation for exfoliation.

STEP 3: EXTRACTION
A trained aesthetician presses and extracts all the blackheads and pimples using professional tools. Normally patients are advised against popping their own pimples at home, but when professionally done this can remove the face of excess sebum and doesn't leave behind scars. This can take quite a while, depending on how much acne you have. There are treatments that don't involve extraction, that are less painful but not as effective. You know how the old saying goes: no pain, no gain.

STEP 4: SCALING
This step is done by the dermatologist and not the staff. The scaling solution is evenly applied all across the face. You can see a little fan that's used to cool off the skin during procedure; this is because scaling leaves behind a mildly flaming and stinging sensation.

STEP 5: MUMMY MASK
This is a soothing mask also known as mummy mask; I'm sure you can see why. The face is left feeling rather smart after the scaling procedure, and a mask is necessary to calm the skin and let it cool down for a while.

STEP 6: APL (Acne Photo Light)
APL is a photo therapy that kills acne-causing bacteria and rejuvenates the skin, as well as stimulates circulation. Use the time for this, and the mummy mask, to sneak in a quick nap, because boy this feels relaxing!

STEP 7: MOISTURIZING
After all the treatment is over, the aesthetician applies moisturizer and sunscreen, and perhaps a bit of BB cream if you want, as a finishing measure. Scaling can leave your skin flaky for the next few days; it's important to use lots of moisturizer in the meanwhile.

Hope this gives you a general idea. When we recommend "acne scaling" treatment, this is what you will go through at our clinic! Feel free to contact us or stop by for consultation, if you have any questions. We're always ready to help. :)

INNO Plus+: The Upgraded RF Procedure for Skin Tightening and Acne Scars

You might have heard of INNOfill, the RF+subcision combination treatment, during your research on solutions for acne scars. Indeed, INNOfill is one of the latest and most popular procedures available at our clinic, with high patient satisfaction rates and relatively low downtime. On top of that, our competent doctors noticed recently that this treatment could even remove excess fat in unwanted areas, particularly double chins and under eye bags.

But guess what? We've got even better news; this equipment has been upgraded yet again for even better results, under the name of INNO Plus+.

Compared to the previous INNOfill, INNO Plus+ operates in two different modes, has higher frequencies, and utilizes a wider range of hand pieces to treat different skin conditions. As a result, with one equipment we can now treat inflammatory acne, syringoma, spider veins, and other conditions in addition to scars, stretch marks, facial contouring, and skin rejuvenation.

Last week, our dermatologists got together to administer treatment on several patients and to learn more about the procedure. Lucky for you readers, because I was there to capture the moments with my camera and show you everything from the beginning, so that you would know what to expect if you ever decide to try this out for yourself.

First and foremost, it's important to start off with a clean face, as always. You can wash your face at home before arriving, or use our powder rooms. Everything you need is provided: foam cleanser, eye makeup remover, hair ties, headbands, blow dryers, toner, lotion, towels, you name it!

Meet Mandy, who was gracious enough to allow us to follow her throughout her experience with INNO Plus+ treatment! She has no makeup on; the little tapes you see on her cheeks are from moles she had removed a few days before.

You can see that Mandy has very visible bags under her eyes, as well as active acne and depressed acne scars.

Now that we're done taking pictures, it's time for numbing cream. INNOfill and INNO Plus+ procedures require local anesthesia in addition to numbing cream, since the treatment consists of a needle being inserted underneath the skin, to emit radiofrequencies from the point of the needle that regenerate collagen from within. In other words, it's an effective treatment, but it's not entirely painless.

After about an hour of waiting, the numbing cream is wiped off and now we're ready for action. Here is Dr. Ko Na Young of our Hwagok branch, designing Mandy's face with a white eyeliner pencil, to indicate the injection points beforehand.

Next up is the local anesthetic injection.

Now comes the treatment for the under-eye bags. Check out the cannulas, used in different sizes for different types of treatments. Everything is sterilized and disposable, meaning all needles are safe and used for one time use only.

As I mentioned before, INNO Plus+ is a combination of RF laser and subcision technique. The cannula is inserted underneath the skin and emits radiofrequencies from the tip which work to remodel collagen and elastic fiber structures, resulting in regenerated and tightened skin as well as improved scars. Furthermore, the cannula itself also breaks off tangled tissues that caused depressed scars (basic subcision), enabling doctors to kill two birds with one stone.

After eye-bag treatment, Dr. Ko used the INNO Plus+ pen, a new feature that was not available with the previous INNOfill model, for acne treatment. Like the AGNES machine, this pen is a micro insulated RF needle which can selectively destruct sebaceous glands that cause acne (thermolysis). By doing so, your skin can also better find the optimal balance between oil and moisture, therefore improving general skin condition in addition to simply reducing acne.

From the tip of the pen you can see an even smaller needle sticking out (if you have good enough vision); this is the point that is injected into your skin. It's barely visible, meaning it's seriously tiny and not painful at all. Patients have said there was just a slight prickling sensation which was quite easy to endure. Here is some short footage of Mandy receiving acne treatment from the INNO Plus+ pen:

And now I suppose the most important part would be the results. Do keep in mind that for acne, acne scar, and contouring treatments, multiple sessions are always recommended for the best results. Since this was just a demonstration, Mandy only received one treatment session, which normally is not enough. However, in a matter of days she was still able to see some improvement in her skin. I should also mention that there is little downtime for the pen treatment; the redness subsides within a few hours. For the subcision, however, Mandy experienced some bruising that lasted for days, but this is partly due to the fact that Dr. Ko took longer than usual and was a bit aggressive with treatment because she wanted Mandy to get the best out of her one-time procedure. This is Mandy right after procedure. Her face is quite red and full of needle marks, but the next day all of those were pretty much gone.

And this is exactly one week after the procedure. The bruises were turning yellow at this point, so Mandy covered up that part with makeup. Without the bruises, you can see that the lumps under her eyes are considerably smoother. Thanks for sending in your photo!

And here is the progress exactly 20 days later, without makeup. I can definitely see some improvement both in the under-eye bags and acne between the eyes, can you?

It was very interesting to witness such developments in dermatological procedures. Consult our dermatologists about INNO Plus+ if you have similar concerns to Mandy's! Who knows? Maybe you might see great results yourself.

MERS FAQ's and Guidelines

A lot of patients have been expressing their concerns about MERS, the outbreak that has been causing many to reconsider whether Korea is worth visiting anymore. "Just how serious is the situation over there?" "Should I cancel my flight until I'm positive that it's safe to visit?" These seem to be everyone's top priority these days, and boy do I wish I knew how to answer the questions properly.

For now, the most I can do to help is to share the guidelines provided by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)?
A: The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a disease caused by the infection of MERS-CoV; once patients are infected, they can exhibit symptoms such as heavy breathing and fever (coughing and dyspnea, etc...), and some of the patients are at risk of dying since MERS can evolve into a severe disease.

Q: Where are the regions that the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is occurring?
A: Currently, most patients are in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Q: How can the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) be infected?
A: So far, the clear source of infection and the infection route have not been determined; but recently, the research results are reporting the possibility of infection by camels.

Q: What kind of symptoms do patients infected by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) have?
A: Heavy breathing with fever are usual symptoms.

Q: How can the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) be cured?
A: A vaccine for prevention and treatment (antiviral medications) have not been developed yet, so internal medical treatments according to symptoms are currently being conducted.

Q: What should I do if I become sick while traveling in the Middle East?
A: If you get sick during your travels, please visit a medical treatment-related organization near the place of your stay and see a doctor. Or if you contact the consulate of the designated area, you can seek appropriate help.

RULES FOR PREVENTION:
  1. Do not touch any animals (especially camels) and do not visit farms while you travel.
  2. Do not consume any rare camel meat and camel milk.
  3. Please adhere to individual hygienic rules such as washing your hands.
  4. Refrain from visiting crowded places as much as possible. - If you must visit those places, do not forget to wear a mask.
  5. Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands.
  6. Avoid any close contact with people who have fever and heavy breathing.
  7. If you begin to experience heavy breathing, put on your mask.
  8. If you begin to experience any heavy breathing such as fever, coughing, and dyspnea, immediately visit a medical treatment-related organization and see a doctor.
  9. For more detailed information, please refer to the website of Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.go.kr) or the website of the Overseas Travel Disease Information Center (http://travelinfo.cdc. go.kr).
Another tip is to strengthen your immune system as much as possible; this means eating healthy, maintaining your body temperature, and increasing your vitamin intake. Take lots of vitamin C (recommended 4 grams a day) and get vitamin D injections about 3 times a year regularly if you can, available at only 50,000 won at our clinic. Stay safe and healthy!

Botox Injection for Frown Lines (Glabella) in Seoul, Korea - Real Photos & Results!

I (the writer of this blog) never really had an idea of what exactly botox was before I started to work for this dermatology clinic. I always assumed it was something that made your face look a lot puffier and awkward when you smiled, some huge procedure done only at plastic surgery clinics, that would distort your face forever.

Little did I know that botox injections were actually so simple and not very dramatic at all! All the awkward celebrities I had seen looked strange because of other procedures, and not just botox. And the more I understood the principles behind botox injections, the more it seemed like such a reasonable treatment to undergo - those for whom botox would apply, obviously.

Simply put, botox (botulinum toxin) paralyzes the muscles that cause wrinkles, primarily around the eyes and forehead. If the muscles can't move, they can't make more wrinkles, and over the course of a few weeks the wrinkles will eventually smooth out. You can read more about botox injections in our previous blog post, written by Dr. Ko Na Young. When excessively injected, the results can seem unnatural and make the face look paralyzed, as many might fear. However, if done in the right quantities, botox is a subtle way to smooth out the wrinkles that form from strong expressions.

After learning this, I noticed that my own mother had some deep frown lines that were getting more noticeable. She had started working out with a personal fitness trainer, and the intense workouts had made her frown and grimace quite frequently. It got to the point where the line was clearly visible even when she was not making any facial expressions. And when she made the slightest expression - even when she was just squinting to see something on her phone - the wrinkle would burrow itself into her glabella and seem like a scar.

Since I didn't personally know anyone who had received botox injections, I was quite curious to see the results unfold over time, and therefore persuaded my mom to get one for herself. So a few months ago, she scheduled an appointment at our Dongdaemun branch and got her first ever botox treatment. In all honesty, she never would have dreamed of having anything to do with botox, and yet look at her now, taking photos for her daughter to update the clinic's blog. :D

As you may already know, botox injections don't require anesthesia and take up very little time, so the procedure was done in a jiffy. When I asked my mother how she felt after, she said over the next few weeks she felt a strange numb sensation, and she could really tell that the muscles were paralyzed because she couldn't frown like she used to. She'd try to frown, but her face would remain passive.

Two weeks later
It's important to remember that one session will not miraculously solve all wrinkles. Too strong of a dosage can make the face look unnatural; it's better to administer small amounts several times for gradual and longer lasting results. In just two weeks, you can see my mother's frown line has faded considerably already. However, a couple of months have passed and she can now feel the effects of the botox wearing off (meaning she doesn't feel the numbness anymore). This is why at first, we recommend you receive botox injections regularly every 4-6 months.

Stop by Renewme Skin Clinic for a consultation; it's the first step for a younger and rejuvenated you!

Intravenous Nutritional Injections for Anti-Aging

Looking for something to boost your energy quickly and efficiently? Intravenous injections might be what you're looking for. IV drips are a great way to deliver nutrients directly to your system; they're quick, easy, and can allow your body to absorb way more than what would normally be tolerable from oral supplements. There are several types of injections available at Renewme Skin Clinic, all with different solutions and effects on the body. If you're interested, learn about each one and decide which one would suit you best!

1. Mega-Vitamin C
It's no secret how important of a role vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) plays. Vitamin C, as we all may know, is a critical nutrient with antioxidant functions. Studies have shown that high doses of ascorbic acid can selectively destroy cancer cells, produce 30-70 times higher plasma concentrations (compared to oral consumption), and decrease histamine concentrations. Indications for vitamin C injections include fatigue, common cold, eczema, acne, and wounds, such as burns or aftereffects of laser procedures.

2. Fursultiamine (Vitamin B1) a.k.a. Garlic Injection
This goes by the name of "garlic injection" because of the distinct smell the solution may give off during treatment. Fursultiamine is a nutrient that improves the functions of nerves and muscles. It can boost your metabolism as well as reduce fatigue that's induced from strenuous exercise; in fact, this was a popular treatment for baseball players in Japan back in the 1960's. If you're an athlete or like to work out, you might want to consider this injection to help you recover from the tougher days at the gym.

3. Liver Extract + Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide (Vitamin B2)
A combination of animal liver extract (which is rich in nucleotides, amino acids and vitamins, specifically vitamin B12) and FAD (vitamin B2) is a popular energy booster. Indications are liver problems such as hepatitis or hangovers (which you might have a lot of if you're living the nightlife in Korea!), as well as a riboflavin deficiency, which causes sore throats and tongues.

4. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (Cinderella Injection)
Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant known for several effects. It can treat diabetes, HIV, and liver diseases, boost metabolism, reduce chronic fatigue and malnutrition, and even aid weight loss. It's a popular treatment at our clinic for mostly healthy patients who feel tired or are trying to lose weight; if you want to specifically treat certain illnesses make sure to consult your doctor first!

5. Glutathione
Glutathione is most well known in Korea as a whitening injection (learn more by reading out blog post here), but it's actually a strong antioxidant that detoxifies the liver. It is also known for its skin whitening properties (though this would require many sessions in order to yield results). Glutathione injections help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated, so stop by for a quick 15-minute drip if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

6. Human Placenta Extract
This is used in Korea for many different purposes, due to the copious amount of nutrients that the placenta contains. Major nutrients include: amino acids, active peptides, proteins, fats an fatty acids, carbs, vitamins, minerals, nucleic acids, and enzymes. Placental extract is also known to improve physical function, sexual life, menopausal symptoms, fatigue, liver functions, chronic pain, and just general health.

None of these injections are life-changing with one session; it's not the next cure to cancer although the effects may seem promising. To get the best out of each treatment, make sure to consult your doctor about which therapy is recommended for your own body type and health condition. Improvements in general health also lead to clear and beautiful skin, so stay healthy, peeps, and check out these injections if you have the chance!

Tips For Visiting Renewme Skin Clinic (Or Any Dermatologist)

Visiting the dermatologist for the first time might seem intimidating if you're not used to it. But in fact, the truth is that medical consultations in Korea, much like most other things in this country, are easy, quick, cheap, and efficient; unlike clinics in other countries where I've heard you need to book months in advance and pay a ridiculous amount of money just to speak with the doctor. If you happen to live in Korea or even if you're just visiting, I'd suggest you seize this good opportunity to visit a skin clinic while you can (only if you need to, of course).

Nevertheless, skin clinics aren't like shopping malls where you can breeze in with no intention of buying anything, browse around, pay half-attention to retailers persuading you to buy their products, and maybe decide to splurge on something or perhaps just leave empty-handed, wallet untouched. This is a place where you go in with a specific concern, communicate with the doctors and staff about the best way to achieve a real solution for your personal health and beauty. Therefore, it would be best to come prepared so you can get the most out of your experience. Here are just a few tips that you may want to keep in mind.

1. Come with a bare face.
If you want the doctor to assess your skin condition properly, you shouldn't leave it hiding under layers of makeup. Most likely, the doctor will ask you to wash your face at the clinic if he/she feels the makeup interferes with the diagnosis. You might as well wash it beforehand at home, with products you're comfortable with rather than going through the hassle at the clinic. If you must, bring your cosmetic products with you and reapply your makeup at our powder room before you leave. Either way, don't apply anything but moisturizer or sunscreen when you're showing your skin to the dermatologist.

2. Prepare the names/types of medications you're taking.
It's important to inform the doctor of any pre-existing medical conditions you have. You wouldn't want the doctor's prescriptions to clash with the medication you're on already. To minimize any chance of side effects or problems, bring a list of the medications you're taking, as well as the names of your conditions.

3. Do some research beforehand.
Having an idea of what treatments to expect will greatly help both yourself and the doctor. Of course, we will explain to you in detail about the treatment, but if you did your research already you would be able to understand everything much more quickly and with clarity, saving a lot of time and effort. Furthermore, if you already had some sort of treatment in mind, the doctor can recommend a procedure closest to what you want, and what results you wish to achieve.

4. Keep in contact with the consultant/staff.
Our consultants are accessible through email, phone, and various chatting apps such as Kakao Talk, Line, and WhatsApp. Make use of this and contact us if you have any questions - better yet, you can send in a photo of whichever area is concerning you, and we'll show the doctor right away and get back to you with a response as soon as possible.
On a similar yet different note; make sure to communicate if you're late or need to cancel your appointment. This is basic etiquette and should apply for all other relationships as well. The staff and doctor will be expecting you at the time of appointment, as is the translator who is not always at the clinic. If you can't make it, please let us know in advance.

5. Clear plenty of time for your schedule if you plan on receiving treatment.
Of course, this depends on what type of treatment, but generally if it's any procedure that requires numbing cream or anesthesia, you might take a lot longer than expected. There might be steps in the procedure that aren't always part of the treatment itself, such as LED therapy or a soothing mask and such. You might want to ask for an approximate time frame before you visit, but to be on the safe side, always clear an hour or two extra since you never know what delays may occur.
Additionally, if you want to receive treatment during the day, be aware of the clinic's lunch hours (ours is from 1 to 2 PM). If your consultation falls right before lunch hour, you may need to wait a lot longer for your actually procedure because it will probably take place after lunch.

Hopefully now you might have a general idea of how to prepare for your visit to the dermatologist, or more specifically Renewme Skin Clinic. This applies for many other clinics as well, so it's always to keep this information in mind!

Doctors are the First Patients at Renewme Skin Clinic

Finding a trustworthy skin/plastic surgery clinic to visit can be a tricky and difficult process if you don't have much experience beforehand. Before the internet was flooded with information on procedures and advertisements, we would've sought out clinics based on the first-hand experiences of our friends and relatives. We would see the results in person to determine the skill of the doctor. Those are the old days now. Today, we can instantly find the latest before-and-after photos as well as full, detailed testimonials from patients all over the world for most clinics you've heard of. On the downside, the overflow of information can actually be more confusing since there are now so many places to choose from, and you may never know if some of the advertisements have been modified on the computer.

Our doctors at Renewme Skin Clinic are fully aware of what it's like to be the patient, especially where trust is concerned. To be 100% percent sure that a procedure is safe and effective, our doctors test treatments not only on patients but on themselves and fellow dermatologists as well.

Dr. Ko Na Young administering laser treatment on fellow doctor
Dr. Yang Yun Seok receiving filler injections
Dr. Ha Ji Hyun trying Excel V laser
And here's a testimonial from Dr. Kim of our Dongdaemun branch, who received a hair transplantation.

These are only a few examples, but our doctors have tried many other treatments and can now say with confidence what the patient should expect from any procedure. They have all gone through the anticipation and nervousness during anesthesia, endured the pain and various sensations from different injections and lasers. They have confirmed results with their own eyes before recommending anything to a patient. Which also goes to say, they will also know when a treatment will not be effective, and can advise you against any treatment that would not work for you.

I recommend Renewme Skin Clinic only because I know from my own experience how honest and trustworthy our doctors are. Feel free to contact us if you want to see for yourself!

Treatment Package for Acne Marks in Seoul Korea

The nasty aftermath of acne can manifest in a number of ways. It might leave ugly red blotches all over your face. It can leave dark brown spots instead. It can leave deep pitted scars of different shapes and sizes that make your skin look rough and bumpy. And as I am sure you probably are aware of, different treatments are recommended for different types of acne scars and marks.

At Renewme Skin Clinic, we have equipment and treatment plans for all types of skin conditions, including pitted scars, enlarged pores, marks, and such. This post, however, will introduce a suggested treatment package that deals specifically with acne marks:

Scaling (3x) + IPL (3x) + Extraction (3x) + Gold Toning (2x)

This combination of treatments would be administered over 5 treatment sessions. So what exactly does each treatment do?

1. Acne Scaling
Acne scaling is a superficial chemical peel that exfoliates and removes the skin of any dead cells and impurities that might cause your skin to break out. You can click here for our previous blog post about acne scaling.

2. IPL
IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a phototreatment that improves and brightens your skin tone as well as treat mild pigmentation. This treatment has little to no downtime or pain, which makes it a popular option for many different skin types. Click here for our blog post on IPL.

3. Extraction
This is a treatment session in which a skilled aesthetician carefully extracts excess sebum from your face, such as blackheads and pimples. Trying to pop these at home can result in scarring and marks, which is why you should leave it up to a trained professional who uses the right tools and technique to remove unnecessary sebum safely and cleanly.

4. Gold Toning
Gold Toning utilizes the gold hand-piece by SPECTRA in combination with laser toning, which is already the best known treatment for melasma. The result is a new treatment method for the more difficult spots, or for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Unlike prior laser toning, Gold Toning can also treat erythema.

Tasty Indian Food at "TAJ" in Gangnam

Seoul has its fair share of pretty good Indian food. It's authentic, delicious, and on the affordable side, which makes it a great option if you're looking for a restaurant that's a little different from your everyday menu.

"Taj" is a chain Indian food restaurant located in Gangnam, a 5-minute walk from Renewme Skin Clinic Seocho branch.

Conveniently located right next to this place is the Indian Museum, which I suspect might be owned by the same person. Perhaps it's because of the location, I'm not sure, but this place was definitely more luxurious and expensive compared to the other casual Indian restaurants I had been to. They have two lunch menus on weekdays, priced at 11,000 and 22,000 won respectively.

Lunch set B obviously has more on the menu, such as lassi, soup, barbecue meat, and coffee. For both sets you can select the vegetarian or non-vegetarian menus.

Upon entering, I realized that the place was a lot wider and spacious than I had expected. The walls and decorations gave off an antique, cool atmosphere, more refined than cozy. The restaurant extended into the basement floors, which was where I headed after walking down a fancy looking staircase.

This came out before our appetizers... we still don't know what they are called, so if anyone could give me the names I would be so grateful!

Tomato soup, included in menu B
Samosas with ketchup! These we ordered separately because they were just too good to pass.

Crispy papad, bit too salty for our taste.

Menu B, with roast chicken and shrimp/chicken curry

Vegetarian curry set A
Overall the food was filling and good, as it's quite difficult to go badly with Indian naan and curry. However, I still feel the price was a little too much, even if the services and overall state were higher than more other places. I would rather prefer a place with a more laid-back atmosphere with lower prices. On the other hand, the place is located in the business district, so perhaps this sort of setting is needed as well. Nevertheless, I still think the food could have been better. The samosas were the best, though. Absolute perfection!
