Laser Hair Removal in Seoul, Korea

The weather is getting warmer now, which means it's time to start exposing those arms and legs to soak in the sunshine. A dilemma we have each year at the end of every winter, is on what to do with body hair. Since who know's when, body hair has become a big cultural no-no, and the methods of removal have since expanded. Shaving, waxing, creams, epilators... all are rather easy and cheap solutions, but definitely not permanent. The most effective hair removal method would be by laser, which can yield permanent results with just a few sessions. Though a bit more costly than other methods, laser hair removal is definitely worth it. It leaves your skin smooth and clean, without scarring or rashes. It can work on sensitive skin. If it does grow back, it is much more easier to maintain. It can prevent skin discoloration or pore enlargement from constant shaving/waxing. It's no surprise that laser hair removal is becoming the preferred choice for most women these days. So

How to Treat Stretch Marks in Seoul, Korea

Stretch marks can affect you aesthetically, socially, and even emotionally. They are caused by a variety of factors, such as rapid weight-gain, pregnancy, Cushing's syndrome, tuberculosis, and more; and are formed when collagen in the dermis become damaged and elastic fibers denatured. Stretch marks can be difficult to treat on your own, and requires persistence and patience for satisfactory results. It's recommended to start treatment as early as possible while the stretch marks are still red - once they turn white they become even more difficult to treat. Consult a dermatologist to find the best procedure for you, but here are a few lasers we offer at Renewme Skin Clinic. 1. AccuSculpt Laser AccuSculpt is used mostly for sagging stretch marks. A thin 1 mm cannula tube is inserted, from which the laser beam is emitted into the deep layers of the skin to generate collagen production, recovering elasticity and rejuvenating the skin. Good results can be seen with one

Laser Treatment for Flat Warts

A few weeks ago, a patient visited our clinic to consult the doctor about treatment for red marks and some light acne on her face. As soon as she sat down and explained her concerns, Dr. Kim Jung Geun peered into her face and after a moment of examination, said, "This isn't acne unfortunately... these are viral warts." "WHAT?!" she exclaimed. And then the patient and I both burst out laughing, surprised by her own reaction. But this is actually very important to know. It's easy to mistake flat warts for acne - and when left for too long, you might end up regretting not getting them treated right away. Here is another contribution by Dr. Ko Na Young of our Hwagok branch. A few days ago I treated our new dermatologist's flat warts with a CO2 laser. She had more than 100 all over her face and neck. All the tiny lesions in the photo are flat warts. They are not exactly clear because I took the photo with my phone. I would say more than 50% of yo

Laser Treatments for Tightening Pores in Seoul, Korea

Let's talk about pores. What exactly are they, and what's the big deal about tightening them? To start off, pores are the small holes in the skin where oil (sebum) is released from the sebaceous glands and where hair grows. That said, it is not a part of the skin that is easily expanded or contracted. A typical pore is about 0.02-0.05 mm in diameter, which is not visible to the naked eye. However, a number of factors - including age, excess sebum, weather, hormones, pregnancy, and stress - can cause the pores to open up, grow in size, and become more noticeable. When this happens, it becomes easier for bacteria and other harmful substances to enter and cause skin trouble. What's worse; enlarged pores are extremely difficult to treat and tighten. Therefore, it is essential that you take preventative measures to keep your pores from expanding in the first place. At Renewme Skin Clinic there are a number of laser treatments to help tighten your pores: 1. Multi-Cell/Mo

Late Hour Services at Renewme Skin Clinic

One of the best things about Seoul is the nightlife. New York isn't the only city that never sleeps, you know - Seoul is just as vibrant and lively after the sun goes down. Restaurants, supermarkets, clubs, cafes, shops, they're all open until late so you don't need to worry about having to stay indoors after 8, like I've experienced in a lot of European cities! Have you heard of a McDonald's that delivers and  is open for 24 hours? Yep, that's right. There are plenty of 24-hour cafes as well, so if you're jet lagged and wandering around the city, or need to take a break from the club, there is always a place to go. Climb up any of the copious hills in the city at night, and you will experience a breathtaking view of Seoul all lit up. To accommodate to this night-owl lifestyle many people take to in Korea, Renewme Skin Clinic also extends hours to 9:00 PM on all  weekdays. That's plenty of time to pop in even after dinner, or after getting off work

SPRING EVENT: FREE Deep Pore Cleansing for Laser Treatments

What images do you associate with spring? Tiny little buds, flowers bursting into bloom, animals coming out of hibernation, fresh new notebooks and pens to start off a new semester, spring showers, Easter... For Koreans, though, we need to deal with something that isn't as romantic: yellow dust. This refers to the dust storms that blow in from mainland China, which have become severe in recent years due to desertification and air pollution. So while you might want to grab a picnic blanket and spend time outdoors once the weather gets warmer, it won't be an option while you're in Korea during springtime. On bad yellow dust days, people are advised to stay indoors and not even open their windows to let in fresh air, because the air is obviously not fresh and does more harm than good. You want to protect your lungs, people. Clear vs. Dusty day See how bad it gets? I can feel it myself these days - the air is much dryer, I'm feeling extra thirsty, and even my boog

Hamburger Steak Variations in Gangnam Area

Since the writer of this blog is mainly situated right near the Seocho branch of Renewme Skin Clinic, it is inevitable that most of the food/restaurant posts are all located around the same area. Nevertheless, Gangnam is visited frequently by tourists and expats alike. Plus, with the Nambu Bus Terminal and Seoul Arts Center so nearby, I would say it is definitely the worth the time to pay a visit to this neighborhood and discover a few delicious eats while you are around. Last week we ventured out to a hamburger steak restaurant that we'd passed by a few times but never had the opportunity to actually enter. We were in the mood for something moderately classy, not exactly fast food but not grade A steak that costs a fortune. The restaurant is called Demis - go straight from Nambu Terminal Station exit 5, and turn left at the big junction. Keep walking straight toward the Arts Center and you will see the sign on your left. They have a lunch special on weekdays, along wit

What Smoking Does To Your Skin

Blog post once again contributed by the lovely Dr. Ko Na Young of Renewme Skin Clinic Hwagok branch. Original post in Korean can be read by clicking here . Ever since the price of cigarettes doubled this year, a lot of people have attempted to quit. This is still not enough, though. We all know that smoking is bad for you, but many are probably not aware that smoking can be bad for the skin as well. When patients come for consultation and explain their concerns about dull skin, fine lines, adult acne, hair loss, psoriasis and so on, I make sure to check whether they are smokers or not. Smoking can cause the skin to age, making it dry and thin. It aggravates acne and psoriasis, triggers hair loss and delays wound recovery. Aging Skin For women especially, smoking induces photoaging, which is skin aging caused by exposure to UV rays, by deepening the skin layers of which UV rays can originally reach. Furthermore, smoking decreases and decomposes collagen generation, furtherin

Alternative to Liposuction - HPL

The road to a slender, perfect body is certainly a difficult one. Maintaining a moderate diet, strenuous exercise, and healthy lifestyle is an ideal solution but never easy. And sometimes, there are those bits of fat in specific areas that just won't disappear no matter how many hours you spend on the treadmill.  But is it really so impossible to get rid of? There are actually a number of procedures that can remove fat in targeted areas. The first thing you might think of is liposuction, which is a surgery and a rather drastic measure with immediate effects from one session. If you're not particularly obese and therefore don't feel the need for such a surgery, you might be looking for some alternatives that can treat just those stubborn areas. One popular option at Renewme Skin Clinic is called HPL. Standing for Hypotonic Pharmacological Lipodissolution, HPL is an injection that, simply put, dissolves and removes your fat. The injection solution is a mixture of subs

Health Benefits of Onion Extract (Juice)

Fruit/vegetable extracts are quite popular here in Korea. But I'm not talking about freshly squeezed juices from a blender/juicer; that sort of thing is a luxury in this country, since the price of actual fruits and vegetables are ridiculously expensive. We buy extracts instead - it might sound like the same thing, but the process and tastes actually turn out completely different. Some popular extract beverages are pear, pumpkin, grape, etc. A few weeks ago, a colleague and I purchased a box of onion extract because we heard it was good for weight loss. It was a spontaneous decision, but after doing a little bit of research I decided I was happy with my purchase. This is how all the extracts are packaged; completely sealed to prevent oxidation. The nutritional facts are listed on the back: One packet is only 36 calories, which is very low and does not affect your diet by much. How it's made: first, the onions are handpicked and harvested in Muan, Jeollado

Hair Transplantation Training Session @ Jamsil, Seoul

We are a little late on the update, but last month a plastic clinic from Thailand visited our clinic to observe and learn about hair transplantation. The training session was held at our Jamsil branch, under the supervision of our trusty Dr. Ha Ji Hyun. It was a long and difficult surgery, for doctors, assistants, and patient alike. We hope this was a valuable learning experience for the staff from Absolute Clinic in Bangkok!
